A thought about Seti's problems

Would it be possible to arrange uploads/downloads by say username- now no doubt there would have to be some analysis of the names to try and keep it "even"- but divide the names up into 7 groups- you're assigned a group and you can Upload/Download on the group days. Of course, you'd make sure you had a weeks worth of WU's stashed .....
a-d Sunday
e-h Monday
i-l Tuesday
and so on

That may help somewhat....

This is an interesting premise and the first time I've seen this as a suggestion for reducing the bandwidth usage! 🙂

It's sortof like the gas rationing (even/odd license plate numbers) in the '70s! 😉

I guess they could put a filter on their data server to reject certain accountnames on certain days. Problem is getting clients configured to abide by this because by default, they'll always keep trying to upload when they run out of work and the only way to semi-control that is to have those results submitted via a queue (with the queue configured to only upload at certain times).

But still, interesting none the less. 🙂

Poof- that's why I suggested having a weeks worth waiting to be done- I wouldn't think that would be that different- heck I normally keep 3-4 days worth on my systems, adding another 20-25 wouldn't necessarily take that much time.
If it doubles (for argument) the amount sent in each time, but allows 1/7 of the users, I would think that would be a net gain. I may just be fooling myself, however!!!!!
