A Suggestion about Private Messages

I have a suggestion dealing with Private Messages: I think it would be nice if there were an option to send an e-mail to a user whenever he has new private messages, similar to subscribing to threads. If I'm away from the forums for a while, I would still like to be able to know when I have new private messages.

Sorry, but that is way overboard. PM's are there to use while you are in the forum, and will always stay that way.

If you make the forums your start page, there's no getting away from your PM(S, if you're GF)

Maybe I'm missing something here, but I don't see why this is "way overboard." Does your concern lie in the number of e-mails that would be sent, or what? I'm sure you're already sending a massive amount of e-mails for the "subscribe to thread" feature. Just to be clear, I'm not suggesting that the contents of a private message be sent to the user. I can see how this would turn the forums into a new free e-mail service. I'm merely suggesting that users be sent a simple e-mail that says they have new personal messages (similar to the subscribe to thread e-mail). Plus, I'm only suggesting that this be an option, so users could just turn it on if they wanted to use it.

Sorry, no. That's like getting a car to drive a car... The private messages are an internal msg system, we will not do email subscritions for it because YES that will take mail servers down, or cause sites to be black listed.
