A sucker is born everyday...

You'd think that with resources as big as the Internet, you'd be able to realize that Bose sucks. But no, people still continue to buy 🙂.

My dad, about ten years ago, purchased a Bose Acoustic Wave stereo system. He's older, didn't really know what he was doing, and was sold into marketing. He knows now, thanks to me, that he got ripped off, and he's finally selling his system to purchase a set of good headphones instead.

I listed it on eBay, and less then 24 hours later, someone bidded $400 for this POS. And, they go for between $500 to $600 final. You really have to be a complete idiot to buy this, at this point in time, where a quick google search will show you just how much these things suck.

Whatever, works out for me in the end.

Oh, and I know all of you are just going to call my dad a sucker. Like I said, he's older, bought it before it was easy to go and research products, and was sold into buying it at some Bose store. I know, I know, he got ripped off, lets mvoe on.

yaa another.

And how many years have you been a speaker sales man? Oh that's right my friends own a custom built in home audio business. (As in the kind that gets installed as the house is being built) Look ANYWHERE on google (except Bose's site obviously) andtell me I'm wrong. Bose blows, period. You're paying for a brand name and that's it. They might have the smallest or coolest looking speakers but they have the worst sound and range. It doesn't take much more than a simple speaker test (frequency, noise etc) to prove it.

Klipsch for the win...if you have the money

I love my promedias, had them going on 5 years and 3 diff computers, great investment!

There's just nothing like them. The newest digital version of the 5.1s can bring most home audio systems to their knees. The trick is this. Most speakers are rates for watts based on peak usage, Klipsch is based on RMS (repeating monotone sound) which means that while person A's speakers may be rated at 1000watts that means it's 1000 peak but may have a 300 watt RMS rating. My Klipsch speakers however have a 500watt RMS rating, meaning for normal music/movies/games they give a significantly louder and clearer sound.

Please, Bose doesn't "blow".. Pyle blows, Pryamid blows, Boss blows.. but don't lump in "overpriced and ridiculously marketed" brands like Bose as "blowing", that's just ignorant especially if you've actually heard a Bose system. I by no means like them and wouldn't be caught dead buying one of their setups at retail price, but I've heard Three (3) different Bose setup's several times (Grandpa's stock Pathfinder, Uncle's TV surround sound, and Aunt's Wave radio) and you better not tell me they "suck" unless you're comparing it to high-end equipment that costs thousands. With the right placement and power a Bose setup might just be good enough for most people.. overpriced, but kudos to Bose for getting people to buy from them anyway.

It TOTALLY BLOWS.

Explanation:
Why bose Blows

I have 5.1 promedia Klipsch...

one of the best investments I have ever made...

Much like my computer I use it ALL the time...why go skimpy on something u use a lot.

RMS is Root Mean Square and has nothing to do with any tone. It's simply a quality power rating.

QFT.

All RMS means is 1/root(2). As in, 120VAC(rms voltage) is actually 170 VAC (peak). Where on earth did he come up with repeated monotone sound? Also, 1000W peak = 707 W RMS.

I normally dont like getting in these debates but so far this is the most objective response here.
Bose does not "completely suck" or "totally blow". They wouldnt be able to stay in business if they did.
The problem is they make average equipment and charge premium prices. Sure you can spend the exact same money with Klipsch and get better audio, or get the same quality with Sony and Philips and spend a lot less money. I think their biggest problem is they have a good name they dont deserve and unless you can pick up their systems for 1/3 or 1/2 price, its just not worth it.
But they dont make shiat. In fact, Sony and Philips probably have a lot more "crappy" products than Bose. The only reason they're special is they have the decency to sell them cheap.

EDIT:
Another problem. When I was in the Navy going through Advanced Electronics School I learned that RMS is .707 and average is .683.
So how come I see all these products floating around with average and RMS ratings that are half or less of the peak?
