I'd take 'em back if it was me, but I'd do it to maintain my own feeling of integrity, not because I think Best Buy needs the money.

Got that right.

You can be a thief because you don't like BB, but that still leaves you, being a thief.

Arrrrrrrr!

i've heard stories where the store will call the police on you for shop lifting even if you try to do the right thing....

It's possible. I wouldn't bother myself.

Their mistake not yours. Why risk going to jail anyway?

They're not free - someone is going to end up paying for them in the end. Go back and pay for them.

not the OP 😉 😛

Well, at least we know where he stands. I hope he doesn't have any FS/FT deals in the works - that'd be a deal-breaker.

Calling the guy a thief is a bit much. It's not worth my time to go to Best Buy during the holidays and stand in line at the customer service desk. If they want to compensate me for wasting their time, then I'd give them their games back.

They did have TWO chances to recognize their mistake.

It really does not matter that BB missed them. He knows he took them without paying wich makes him a thief.

would i take them back? yeah. call up BB and tell them what happened. but hey if you have no ethics then keep them.

What the OP fails to mention is they all know each other.

BTW, 4 items in bag but only 2 in receipt and fail to notice the mistake. Shens!!

OK.. To get the age thing out of the way, I'm 26.

So the story starts where I get off at 5:00 from work and go to the local GameStop to look for a couple PC games. I spend about 25 minutes looking over the games and have come down to Fable, Need For Speed, Final Fantasy XI (played it a year ago and had to quit because i turned into a hermit) and Starwars BattleFront II. I think to myself I don't want to pay $200 today so I just pick up FFXI and SWFII. I go home and then call my dad (who is 63) and he tells me his router burned up and he was going to go to walmart for it. I then told him I'd go for him and instead i went to Best Buy. I picked him up a D-Link wireless router and then in browsing the store I picked up a MicroSoft Desktop 4000 Keyboard/mouse and then go to the game section just to see if I missed any games that were not at GameStop... I then see Fable and Need For Speed. The urge takes over and I pick up both games as well as a bottle of coke. I then get in line and by the time i get to the register I see the LCD and there card swiping machine is broken (by a punch my guess). The girl starts scanning things and at that time i started looking over there cupon book... she then takes my card (she told me the price but i wasn't listening) and i pay for the items and start to leave, as i walk thru the metal detecter, the noices go off and I freeze.... The 17 year old "best buy security gard" comes over and takes my receipt and looks thru the bag at each item checking off the list... He then signs his name to the receipt and tells me "thank you, come again"... i then leave and drive to my dads house. I give him his new router and then go home. I then take everything out of the bag and then look at the receipt as the girl told me I got a $10 mail in rebate for the keyboard. I then notice that the girl never scanned in Fable or Need For Speed and I now have 2 $50 games for free....

Paragraphs are your friends

I would love to see the expression on the people working at best buy when (if) you go in and try to return the game. They will probably think, what a wuss, and so will I 🙂

My concern, returning them to a retailer with as, er..., colourful, reputation as BB, is that they would call the cops as soon as he admitted that he'd not paid for them, regardless of the fact that he was willing to put things right.

I've heard anecdotal reports of this happening, though I've not been able to corroborate them.
