how good is this supposed to be compared to say superantispyware and malwarebytes?

IMO it might be a little better at real time protection as it includes the Ikarus Anti-Virus engine and behavior analysis. http://www.emsisoft.com/en/software/antimalware/

For removal of malware, MBAM and SAS would probably win.

Well MRG is really new at testing but they did use a large sample size of 554,981 malware files. aSquared came in first place.

a-squared is slower to do a full scan, but it also reports things others don't, like it will notify you if you would like to remove limewire. I usually do a first scan with super antispyware, and then run a-squared.
