note - educated people are normally more conservative than non-edumacated people. The exception is when they are still in college and think they have a clue about the real world and the value of their opinions...

i think that would depend what bar you set in order to be "educated". college educated, sure. mba, sure. i don't buy it for phds though.

You are expecting liberals to be polite and respect others who don't agree with them?

Yes, please emulate Hannity and Rush. They are soooo polite.

You say this because Hannity and Rush are obviously the definition on all non-liberals. Nice paint brush, I hear Wagner's are better, power spray and all.

"You are expecting liberals to be polite and respect others who don't agree with them"

Goose = Gander

Doesn't fit. Liberals and concervatives can both be polite, or not. Showing examples of conervatives not being polite doesn't excuse the liberals who are not polite.

wrong+wrong != right.

edit: but according to the civil engineers that built the wonderful exit a couple miles away from my exit, 5 rights=1right.

You are both getting better.

Internet hint...
When someone posts something ridiculous, then someone comes in with something equally bizarre but opposite, it is usually done to emphasize the absurdity of the original.

Of course both sides can be polite and should, however I can't be too hard on her since I didn't hear the presentation. How would the class react if someone extolled the virtues of white supremacy? Should they politely applaud, even if the presenter means it? To be sure that Bush is not a white supremist, however many feel that this war is immoral. What bounds for behavior reign here?

I can not believe what has happened to this country! Listen to yourselves, Liberal / conservatives, A$$hats, aren't we all American (well, most of us)? If this girl really wanted to protest the last speech, instead of not clapping she should have asked to give her own rebuttal. A simple "protest" of not clapping is just a insignificant way to protest. I'm trying not to write any assumptions about this girl, you make them yourself.

Seems that liberals and conservatives have resorted to name calling and uneducated banter lately. The problem is nobody really knows what they are protesting or even what they are supporting. BAH!

Edit: oh yeah it was about the class not the meaning of the speech. A clap would have been a nice show of respect. I wonder how the girl would feel if someone didn't clap for her.?

Get over it people. It is just a speech class. I think you're looking into this WAY too much.

"Juliee didn't clap after my speech, I'm going to pull her hair out at recess."

Don't lower yourselves to Nick1985's level of thinking. Your IQ will drop a few points after every thread of his you read.

No, I still disagree. If it is a speech class and the speech is about Pro-Choice or Pro death penalty, there is NO WAY I'm going to clap to that even if the speaker is good.

It's still disrespectful. You don't have to agree with the contents to encourage the speaker to speak, which is A. the point of the class and B. the reason you applaud.

Have you ever spoke to an auditorium full of people? You don't get that kind of control in speaking by having people stare at you with blank faces when you finish your first speech to a small room. The encouragement builds confidence, something you need to learn before you learn to write a good speech.

well wasnt so much the speech, it was a girls reaction. we gave impromptu speeches and the girl that was up there talked about how she stood behind what bush believed in. when she was done, the class clapped like we do for everyone. except i looked at a girl in my class that is a known insanely liberal person, and sure as sh!t she was refusing to clap. just kinda made me mad that she couldnt put aside her own beliefs to just clap for the girl who just made a speech.

rant over 😉

Dude, if those are the rules, I'd like to be in your class and give one of my great speeches titled, "The Brainwashing of Christianity." After I'm done, I would await my applause, despite what you think of the content. And you all BETTER be clapping! I don't want to see some insane conservative in the corner being rude and not clapping. 🙂 Man, that would be a great forum! What school do you go to? I'd like to enroll in that class. 🙂

Well, apparently NuclearNed thought all liberals act in the exact same manner: specifically they are impolite and lack respect for other people's opinions. If he can make that generalization based on one person's actions, why can't WinsonSmith make a similar generalization based on 2 people's actions?

If it were in a class room where the class was meant to teach speaking and not meant for subject I would clap. Even if you were speaking to try to spread the evils of Christianity I may or may not clap. It just comes down to common courtesy. You can disagree with someone but still give them a bit of support.

I'm not saying either is right, they are both bad examples. If the generalization held true for a majority of liberals or concervatives then OK, but I think either would be hard pressed to show that, nor have they.

edit: read my post at the end of the second page, 2 wrongs != right.

You're clapping out of respect and copurtesy - it's not a political rally :roll:

You should print out this thread and place it on her seat before one of your next classes. Although with your username most likely containing your first name and birth year maybe this is not such a good idea.

Update us if you do this!
