A smokers complaint!!

Every time I go out to grab a smoke, the security guard at my work harasses me. Just because he's in his mid-sixties and sits behind a desk bored all day making half the money I do at 23, doesn't mean he has the right to tell me how I should go about my business. It's not like I blow smoke in the guys face, and its not like he has to clean out the butt bucket, so what the hell? If I wanna give myself cancer, then thats my god d@mn business.

What would you recommend I do? And don't say to stop smokin cause this habit is something I've been dealing with for a long time now.

Expand on this harassment. Too hard to say if you need to grow a thicker skin, or if the guard is being obnoxious.

stop smoking. go for a run 🙂 it's a much better addiction.

jk man. being as physically active as I am, I am annoyed by smokers who bother me, but I hear ya. I won't tell anyone to stop smoking.... more than once 😛 It's not my place, nor anyone else's to tell you how to live your life. If you want the risk of cancer, by all means, go ahead, as long as it doesn't involve me.

Here is what you should say to him:

"Live fast, die young, leave a good looking corpse and NEVER EVER EVER take a deadend security job - yessir, that's my motto"

Isn't the Security guard inside? Just walk by and don't acknowledge he's even there.

Yeah, thats exactly what I do, but he ALWAYS has to fit in a snide remark like "Another smoke huh?" or "Going out for your second lunch are ya?"

Thick skin isn't the issue, I just wanna tell him to F off!!! I mean it gets old after a while.

hahaha, best response yet!!

Maybe the guy has lung cancer? Did you ever think to ask him why he's giving you a hard time?

Jizz on him.

You should realize that what you take as an annoyance might, in their certain fashion, be someone trying to help you out. May'be if you would listen your life might not end at age 53, lying in a bed with tubes up your nose with thoughts of all the people who tried to help you along the way.

Or you can tell him to "secure this old man", and grab your crotch.

I have been a smoker for over 30yrs... and it pisses me off to hear ppl complain and make snide comments on it...

I think that I have a right to smoke, just as non-smokers have a right NOT to smoke. And I think that if/when my right to smoke infringes on their right NOT to smoke, then I need to make changes in how I exercise my right to smoke.

However, those who b!tch about smoking, just to b!tch about it... are prompty shown a flipped bird.

Tell the security that while smoking is a bad and dangerous habit, you would much perfer to take your chances with it, than to end up a bitter old man with nothing left in his life but to annoy others.

🙂

You could file a complaint with your HR department that you are being harassed at work on a continuous basis and it's becoming very upsetting and making you mentally unstable to be constantly put down...

Unless he has a sarcastic tone, it sounds like he's bored and is making chit-chat. Imagine sitting at a security desk all day long. Pretty boring...

Why don't you offer him a smoke?
