President Obama selects Charles F. Bolden as the replacement to Griffen to guide NASA in space exploration matters
Retired Marine Major General, 4 times Shuttle crew member - as Pilot and Commander, including the original Hubble Launch Mission,
100+ Viet Nam fighter combat missions, U.S.Naval Academy grad (like McCain), but he will need a waiver for his 'Lobbyist Activities'
as he work to lobby for ATK (which used to be Morton-Thiokol) the manufacturer of the SRB's for the Shuttle and it's derivitave boosters
for use on both the Ares I Crew Launch Vehicles and for the Ares IV Cargo & Supply Heavy Launch Vehicles,
after his retirement from the Military in 2004 - and has recently been on the Board of Directors for GenCorp, which through it's
Aerojet General Space Division is building the engine system for the Orion Service Module.
(Obama added restrictions for recent lobbyists in Government Service work)
He is arguably the most qualified individual ever chosen for the NASA Leadership position, as having come out of the Astronaut Program and has
actually worked in space - during manned missions, and he has also been in positions to know what is really happening in the Space Manufacturing realm.
He still has to go through the Senate Confirmation Board Hearings, and have a full Senate review to vote on his ascending to the top NASA position.
It will be interesting to see how much resistance he gets by members of the political parties and whether partisan politics attacks his appointment.
I don't expect this to be anything like picking a horse show judge to run FEMA was.
Wise decisions need to be made soon, and any stalling of confirmation will cause serious damage to our development of Manned Space Flight for the future.
I can't believe that nobody posted this sooner, it's been out there for several days.
Oh, by the way (yawn) the Shuttle safely landed in California
