Those are sort of odd choices for parts.

- Why a kilowatt PSU when you'll be using such a low end video card? If it's for future-proofing, then ok, but that configuration as it stands now could get by with a 500W PSU.
- Why the X48 motherboard if you'll only be using one video card (and from a company whose motherboard division just went out of business)?
- Why the overpriced DDR3?

Not to be too critical or anything, but I just figured you could save a decent amount of money if you went with some different parts choices.

Yes, no sense using a 1000W PSU with any normal system - plus it's unlikely that a 1kW PSU will fit in any small case. You'd be far better off with a 500 Watt or so unit from a top tier maker (since when is Coolermaster on anyone's short list of PSU makers) - OIC it's cheap and looks normal dimensions... As far as the mobo, it seems to be almost unobtainium per Froogle (only found one hit and that was in Australia). Is it justifiable in rational terms?

Now to the point of this thread. Is normal mid-tower size "small" by your definition? How's this - 7.9" x 17.3" x 19.4" (W x H x D) (Bezel Not Included)? Those are the dimensions of one of my favorite cases, the Rosewill R5600 series. Excellent prices right now (free ship on some) and could handle your proposed system just fine, but only available in US and Canada. In other countries, look for the same case under the Yeong Yang brand in the YY-5600 series. The Rosewill R6A series are also excellent cases which may be found in other countries (and here) under the HEC/Compucase brand in the 6A series, but these won't take the 10.5" long video cards while the 5600s can.

Guys, thanks for the replys, excuse a newbie I should have explained that I got the parts in a job lot auction at a science fair, the graphics card is in fact an Sapphire HD4850 512mb.

I need a small tower case to fit this mobo in that is less than 19 inches in depth as it needs to slide under a desk in a small bedsit

Is that 19" while taking into acount the 2" to 4" of space needed between the back of the case and the wall needed for cables that stick out from the case?

Most mid tower cases average about 17" to 18" in depth. So most any mid tower ATX case will do. Check out the cases at Newegg. find one you and your son like and check its dimensions. Chances are they will be within your 19" limit. Most case listings on Newegg show case dimensions.

But here is a decent case thats at a good price.

I believe the Rosewill R6A/Compucase 6A series is under 19" deep, but generally nothing under 19" deep will hold long (10.5" or longer) video cards. And as said above, you have to add several inches for cables and room to breathe. The Compucase 6X series is good too and under 19" deep.

I think one issue is where will the Hot Air Go?

Is there a back exhaust hole?
Are there Side exhause holes?
Hole for Wires for back? - Need video adapter hole for video, Sound, Microphone, Headphone Jack????

Not a big fan of putting computer cases inside a wooden box.

Well you could just customize a case with 2 5.5" Drive slots and remove the hard drive and floppy slots and get a kit to put the hard drive into the 5.5 slot and use only one DVR recordable drive.
