A Slightly offbeat topic... what's your favorite Dr. Seuss book, and why?

Giving props to one of the greatest authors ever, Dr. Seuss. I daresay there aren't many of us who DIDN'T learn to read with his help, and one of his wasn't the first book we ever read (One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish holds that honor for me). Considering that he would have enjoyed his 97th B-day not long ago, let's give him some props, and share some Seuss stories 😀

Horton Hears A Who

Because sometimes just because we can't see or hear something, it doesn't mean that it does not exist. It also warns against mob mentality.

Plus I just love the monkey dance to "Boil That Dust Speck!"

(As much as I am sentimental about Red Fish Blue Fish, the sheer number of times I have had to read it to my 3 kids over the years sort of killed it for me. 😉 )

Too Many Daves is my absolute favorite, its adorable. But I am partial to the Lorax as well, I think it sends the best message of all his stories.

TOO MANY DAVES -Dr. Seuss

Did I ever tell you that Mrs. McCave
Had twenty-three sons and she named them all Dave?

Well, she did. And that wasn't a smart thing to do.
You see, when she wants one and calls out, "Yoo-Hoo!
Come into the house, Dave!" she doesn't get ONE.
All twenty-three Daves of hers come on the run!

This makes things quite difficult at the McCaves'
As you can imagine, with so many Daves.
And often she wishes that, when they were born,
She had named one of them Bodkin Van Horn
And one of them Hoos-Foos. And one of them Snimm.
And one of them Hot-Shot. And one Sunny Jim.
And one of them Shadrack. And one of them Blinkey.
And one of them Stuffy. And one of them Stinkey.
Another one Putt-Putt. Another one Moon Face.
Another one Marvin O'Gravel Balloon Face.
And one of them Ziggy. And one Soggy Muff.
One Buffalo Bill. And one Biffalo Buff.
And one of them Sneepy. And one Weepy Weed.
And one Paris Garters. And one Harris Tweed.
And one of them Sir Michael Carmichael Zutt
And one of them Oliver Boliver Butt
And one of them Zanzibar Buck-Buck McFate...
But she didn't do it. And now it's too late.

oh man, to hard to say...1 fish, 2 fish...Horton, Green eggs....
i met him at a charity dinner at the Hotel Del Coronado back in '90. sadly he died the next year.
i wanted to goto his funeral but it was closed to the public. i have visited his grave. that man was a genious.

What if DR. SEUSS wrote your computer repair manual..would it go like this?

If a packet hits a pocket on a socket on a port
and the bus is interrupted as a very last resort
And the address of the memory makes your floppy disk abort
then the socket packet pocket has an error to report.

If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash,
and the double-clicking icon puts your window in the trash,
And your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
then your situation's hopeless and the system's gonna crash!

If the label on the cable on the table at your house,
says the network is connected to the bottom on your mouse,
But your packets want to tunnel on another protocol,
that's repeatedly rejected by the side effects of gauss,
So your icons in the window are as wavy as a souse,
then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'Cause as sure as I'm a poet,
the sucker's gonna hang!

When the copy of your floppy's getting sloppy on the disk,
and the microcode instructions cause unnecessary risk,
Then you have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM,
quickly turn off the computer and be sure to tell your mom!

My favorite, by far, is The Cat in the Hat.

You have to love all the subtle and not-so-subtle communist allegory.

"Green Eggs and Ham" is my fav, but "And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street" is a close second. I can't really explain why, those are just the two I always read as a kid.
