<< A system allowing the pilots to flood the passanger area with sleeping gas. >>

I like that idea too!

How about replace pilots with computers?

Actually, my guess is that pilots will be permitted to carry weapons from now on.

Armed, undercover marshals should be placed aboard all flights..

Thats the way it was back in the day, and those needs, should be placed in effect again

Assuming hijackers are typically standing whereas pilots and most passengers are sitting and belted, if the pilots were to do a couple rolls...

Not sure if this idea would fly or not, but how about no more carry on bags?

<< how about armed guards dressed in civilian clothes. when the sh!t hits the fan the guards go into action! >>

Why do the guards have to be dressed in civis? I wouldn't mind one bit sitting next to a fully uniformed guard carrying a M-16. Security needs to become a way of life. I don't know why people would get freaked out knowing there was someone armed on the plane with the sole purpose of protecting them. Deck the guy out top to bottom with more weapons than Rambo and have him walk the damn aisle! I'd like to see some smelly ass terrorist try to take over a plane with a box cutter with that guy on board.

1) reinforced steel cockpit (or even the door) would add a lot of weight
2) there still has to be a way for the stewardesses to enter the cockpit in the event of emergency, this renders your idea invalid
and finally, 3) i'm sure you're not the first person to come up with such a simple idea, and there are probably many more reasons why this is not being implemented

All mentioned suggestions are good but we all know if it cost too much, it wont happen.
1. Better screening at the airport including ramp worker. if Israel can, we can too.
2. Install monitoring equipment or implement a new FAA rules that require pilot to contact ground/tower at all time. if pilot fails to do so, qround take control and autopilot and land at nearest airport.
3. Better training at ground/tower. When you see a change in flight destination and no contact what so ever from the pilot, you know something is wrong. 2+2=4....

Arm the pilots. They go through so much training anyway, why not teach them to take out terrorists as well. I'd guess a lot of these pilots have some sort of military background anyway.

Or how about some drunkass "air rage" passenger. That would be great.

Really, being in the airports in Europe with the military walking around with M-16's and about a hundred checkpoints, I did feel safer. In the US, you can come and go with almost no hassle, even international flights. I would hate to think how easy it would probably be if some crazy locals disaffected with the government tried to do stuff like this. They should spend the money. I would be willing to pay for it in higher prices.

Yeah, then the hijackers would know exactly who to take out first!

Pretty sure this is gonna go into effect (the undercover ones I mean).

I say close off the Cockpit with double bomb proof doors, and activate a sleeping gas system that can be activated by the pilot that will put all passengers to sleep, but not kill anyone.

A heavy bulkhead between the pilots and crew is not a good idea. If the door is locked what are you going to do if the pilots are incapacitated or one of them decides to do something crazy himself? Now we have to recognize that over time, terrorists could BECOME pilots and do something crazy.

Personally, I would want to be able to get access to the flight deck in that event.

The best idea would be the air marshal idea coupled with the sleeping gas and also the autopilot idea. Must have failsafes.

To tell you the truth, the ideal would be a fuselage that breaks apart and maybe has a parachute or something...so in a crash situation people would have half a chance to survive.
