A simple poll. 7800GT or X1800XT?

I am buying my Opty combo and vid card next week. Because of my place of employment, I can get the ATI X1800XT retail for $359. Given the prices of the 7800GT, which am I better off with? Is it worth the extra $80 for the ATI? I don't game above 1600x1200, and once I buy a HDTV (probably towards the end of the year), I will of course be gaming on that screen, at an even lower resolution.

No explanations for your choice necessary. You don't have to compare core mhz and pipelines etc etc. Also, don't need to tell me I'm better off waiting for XXXXX card to come out. I will be buying one of these 2, just don't know which. Just choose A or B.

wait a min 🙁 we just had a thread like this :! but he was upgrading his 7800gtx to x1800xt for $80.

That seems to be the consensus. I didn't think in a million years I'd be buying another ATI card, since the 7800's were looking pretty fierce before the x1800's came out (not that they don't STILL look fierce).
 
Actually Depends on wat games you are playing because the 2 cards go back and forth....if it were me...id just buy the x1800XT

mainly CS:S, but also F.E.A.R., CoD2, BF2, NFSU 2. All FPS and Driving games.

From what I've seen, *if* the 7800GT beats the X1800XT in any game, it's barely by anything at all.
 
The 7800GT beats the X1800XT? Unless going SLI there is no way for the same price I would get a 7800GT versus a X1800XT. Perhaps a 7800GTX but at, or near, the same price it is no contest for me. I own a 7800GTX currently
 
for <1600x1200 resolution, you can probably do with 7800GT.

Though X1800XT is definately nice too.

Either way you won't be disappointed.

Nope. Just happen to work for a certain computer company that does a LOT of business with ATI. But sounds like we're using the same Employee Purchase Program 😛
 
I'm curious... All the people who voted for the 7800gt, why dont they post their reason for chosing it over the x1800xt?

I vote X1800 at that price. But as for the 7800GT voters, they probably all had very bad experiences with ATI in the past and wouldn't recommend an ATI card to anyone, even at this deal price. Just a guess.
 
With those prices there is no way you can vote for the 7800GT. I have a GT and it rocks, but given that scenario, X1800XT hands down.
