a simple music creating program

does anybody know of one? you know what I'm talking about. the kind where you make basic techno by dragging bars of sound onto a musical score type thing. i'd appreciate any suggestions.

Sony's Acid (formerly from Sonic Foundry) is the classic example of what you are talking about (drag and drop, bar by bar music creation software that's most strongly geared toward techno music). The full version of Acid is not cheap, but the free Acid Express might be more than enough for your purposes. You can download it from places like this site:

thanks for the suggestion. i wasn't even looking for something that complicated. I remember several years ago I had a program that had an extremely simple drag-and-drop interface, it even looked like some kid program. I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.

I think you're talking about Super Dooper Fruity Looper.

fortunately the program i remember wasn't that childish!

argh!! I wish I could remember the name of that program cuz I either don't have time to try to learn all these others or they are only trial or low functionality versions.

Regarding the suggestion of Cakewalk ... I use Cakewalk Sonar in my studio (Sonar being the only one with the "drag and drop" of Acidized wave files). But Sonar is an order of magnitude more complicated than Acid, so if Acid is too complex, Sonar is not even in the ballpark (at least for the OP's purposes).
