A simple 1lb water bottle fixed my air squat falling backwards

So I never could air squat all the way down without falling backwards.
I always had a chair in front of me to grab onto at the bottom of the squat.

Then I saw this video:

For me, all it took was holding a 16oz water bottle. 😱

So I'm assuming after a few days of this I can deep air squats without the need of a counter weight?

If you cannot balance in an air squat without a weight in front of you, then you are sitting too far back and not allowing the knees to track over the toes. This could be a mobility issue with your ankles, most likely.

Continuing to squat with counterweight may be enough to help your ankles, but you could also simply work on your ankle flexibility or change the mechanics of your squat to fix your issues.

You also state comments regarding the depth of the squat. Recognize that a squat is technically valid in all aspects if you break your hip plane. Some will tell you that you must go deeper than that (ass to grass) but that isn't necessary / isn't always preferred.

I've... I've never seen anyone that had this issue...?
I see it occasionally with people single leg squatting, and have seen it with people that do not have the mobility to get to the bottom of a squat without keeping their shins more vertical (and hence unable to maintain balance)
