512MB 3.3v 168Pin DIMM 64X64-133 OEM 16 Chip

OEM DIMMS are manufactured using 3rd tier SOJ parts. The SOJ parts are typically not marked with the original manufacturers' brand or insignia because they may not meet the original manufacturers published specifications. Referred to as minimum specification parts, they operate normally in most systems. OEM DIMMS may use mixed brand and/or mixed speed SOJ on the same board. The use of 3rd tier and mixed parts significantly reduces the manufacturing costs. Most retailers offer these parts exclusively, and do not distinguish between different types of memory.

I've never had problems with local Fry's memory except when it contained chips with nonstandard markings. Many of those chips aren't even minimal spec but are rejects or used parts gleaned from other DIMMs and screened with nothing but a sub-$1,000 machine or even just a PC.

why not buy from Mushkin directly? unless outpost's price is better than Mushkin.

it's like paying more for Crucial ram from buycom, newegg, etc than from Crucial.com directly.

I agree. But I've had no problems with frys memory personally, and all the chips on my 256 MB stick of DDR say "Hynix". :)

odoacer, Hynix is a valid brand. It used to be part of the Hyundai conglomerate. They were spun off and are now trying to get their finances in order.

this one seems not to be Hynix,
the product page says "PQI-Usa Inc".
it should be using PQI chips,
memory module with PQI chips is the cheapest in Asia.
