Yankees officially said they would not. So unless they go back on their word, it's either Red Sox, Angels or Cubs.

I believe the Rangers also appeared to be interested in possibly signing A-Rod.

Red Sox could afford him, but I believe they still want to re-sign Lowell to play third base.

Good luck replacing that. He will go down as the greatest player of all time, and it won't even be much of a debate.

What a crappy time to announce that, trying to steal the Red Sox thunder, or just trying to fly under the radar?

At $30+ million he's definitely over-valued based on his wins over replacement.

If he was worried about the yankees supporting cast, hes not going to the Giants or Rangers.

A-rod will probably play shortstop for his next team - his much more valuable in that position.

but in the end, he's just one hitter out of nine.

Try to read the entire thing and not just the words you like. He underperforms HIS COST. You can get 90% of his production for 1/3rd the cost and have $20 million left over to spend on pitching. I'm not sure if you actually understand baseball or just quote stats, but if you've been watching it's pitching that wins world series, not 3rd basemen who disappear in October.

exactly, get a couple of good starters that can pitch in 40% of your games or someone who will bat only 11% of the time for you.

A-rod is like a union worker - he doesn't work overtime. His hitting only lasts 162 games.

I don't think A-Rod will get more from another team than he would have from the Yanks.
This is all about A-Rods desire to be the highest paid player for the rest of his career. He insisted his previous contract be 252 million so it would be double the previous highest contract.
I also think A-Rod doesn't care or is afraid of the pressure of the post season.
For him, its all about putting up numbers and getting paid. The playoff pressure is just something he doesn't like and can't handle.
Whoever he signs with won't have enough money left to put consistently good teams around A-Rod, so signing him would be a bad move for any team.

i wonder which of the 3-4 teams that can afford him would actually pay... perhaps only the yankees or perhaps red sox could afford him without destroying the team in other aspects, but i dont see the red sox paying up...

I kind of doubt Boston goes after him. For all the money they spend, they're pretty smart about it.

So who's stupider, the Angels or the Cubs?
