a replacement for a Crispy T-Bird?

I have discovered that the 1.33 tbird in my second PC seems to be crispy. When i swapped it out for an XP1800, it displaced a P3-800 which i gave to a friend. Pretty sure it was a bad HSF mount that did it in.

Normally i would just let it be but with the low cost of AMD processors i was thinking of replacing it with either a new XP or a lower power Athlon C. What would be the best bang for the buck, an XP1600/1500, 1.1/1.2 Athlon C or Duron? The only other consideration is to have a low heat generating solutionIt will have an alpha 8045 on it and a panaflo L1A fan. I might offer the computer for sale to a friend or use it later this year when i finally get a HDTV as an HTPC.

With that kind of heatsink, go for the best performance/price combo from AMD. Get like an 1800+ or 1700+ cause you can easily overclock it past 1900+ when you unlock the multiplier.

don't dispute your suggestion but this is for my second PC, my primary has a 1800+ in it already. I am looking for a low cost option. the XP 1500/1600 OEM is the absolute highest end i want to spend on this. Absolute performance is no really the goal.

If your looking for a good deal I would go with the duron 1.0 ghz. Good overclcoker and cheap as dirt.

If it was my choice I would grab 2 1.0's before I got a 1600+ the 2 1.0's will do more work than the 1600+ ( then you can buy another mainboard 🙂 )

That reminds me, this is to slot in a Asus KT133A board which i am not replacing - nice try Evadman! That was the personal weakness that resulted in me trying to justify having a 3rd PC in a one bedroom apt - i justify with a pathetic ......"well i already have most of the parts"

Duron might be the way to go....anybody else have $0.02?

never mind......i broke down and got a replacement 1.33 AthlonC.....$94 seemed a bearable price.....god i love AMD!
