What about secure enough to disbelieve in God?

This category falls to many scientists who look for an explaination to their beliefs... how can there be a God when the only proof is that which is within a bible.... and when asked, "Is it just a coincidence then that all this works out?" (in a form of sarcasm) they are secure enough to answer you with a "Yes, yes it is a coincidence, and until there is enough proof... I will not believe in any religious affiliation"

I agree that the reason many people have religious affiliation is because of the insecurity that you are mentioning here... we need something to help us through our life, something that makes life meaningful - so that we feel more loved than we currently are (not necessarily a bad thing). We must understand that religion is something that boost the psychological ego and psychological security

GOD must feel sad,he created this fine earth, and gave us food to eat.
look where we are now,all this technology, able to drive everywhere instead of walking.
able to call anyone anywhere.
and how few people even give a few minutes to GOD thank him. Very sad :(

for the athiests here, if you believe life is just sort of a flash in the pan, with no afterlife or anything to go to, why do you follow rules and abstain from sin. If, on the day you die, everything about you ceases to exist, why dont you just go out with a bang and go nuts; steal, kill, sleep around, anything you could possibly imagine? If your not going anywhere when you die, what is really the point in living? is life just a meaningless length of time than?

Um thats a pretty uneducated statement. Just because I dont believe in your fairy tale doesnt mean Im a horrible person who is going to rob and steal. And on the day I die, I plan to um.. die and not go around pillaging things because there is no consequence of my actions, thats just complete crap mate. See my signature for your afterlife story.

if anyone like that existed, then they wouldn't be alive.

let me clarify. under your stereotype non believers should rape and pillage. but what is the point when they can just kill theirself? think about that for a minute, and then i will continue...

it is said that our only purpose on this earth is to reproduce, and at that we are doing a good job. look at the simplest microbe for example. what do they do? reproduce, your skin cells... yep, all they do is reproduce. plants? yep, they only exist to reproduce, and the goal is to have successful children ( ones who will not perish and will reproduce ). now the actual question is why? is it a stretch for eternal existance? no one can answer that.

now, taking that into consideration. if someone was to go out and go nuts, kill, steal, and pillage. then their children would not be very *successful*. it is in our instinct to be the most desirable to the opposite sex, so that we may find the best mate to _reproduce_ with. see where i'm going with this?

Life is without meaning, as far as we know, but that doesn't mean that we don't have any reason to preserve and improve that what we have. You don't need a religion to have morals, you know.

Religions have absolutely nothing to do with the existance or non-existance of any supernatural beings. Religions are disposable things.

And even the existance of a supernatural being would be without any meaning. Nothing, I repeat, nothing can have a meaning if you take enough distance.

Take for example the Christian ideology: it tells us that people are put here on earth to 'test' them, then they'll be divided into two groups: those who go to heaven and those who go to hell. If we ignore the fact that it's impossible to have a place without pain, suffering but just perfection and the other way around (hell), then we might ask ourselves: what's the purpose of this? People who live in eternal bliss or pain?
But even if the Christian god has anything more planned with those 'good' or 'bad' people, it'll still be without meaning.

Search for the meaning in life and you'll only find despair.

You, need a third option, Believe or disbelieve of god of any form has nothing to do with personal well being.

There are as many distrubed & inscure religious people as there are distrubed & inscure non religious people.

Likewise

There are as many content and secure religious people as there are content and secure non religious people

No connections

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks. It only matters what you think. When you are born into this world, you cannot grow up without being stuffed like a cabbage full of nonsense. None escape the conditioning of culture. Belief, disbelief, it's all nonsense, a product of influence. But to have questions, to burn with a desire to understand, to never rest, to analyse and discard idea after spoon fed idea, to strip oneself unmersifully of all the garbage handed down by centuries, to find your own true original face, that would be something. Truth, like fish if water, is where we have our birth and being, unnoticed because it is everywhere.
