A "rehost" service

I see so many people on here asking for things to be "rehosted" because they are blocked at work. So why doesn't someone just create a website that basically "wgets"/"mirrors" any site for a specific timeframe? I mean, if there's a big enough demand for it, I can make it. Then, anyone who wants to see something blocked at work just types in the URL and it mirrors it.

What's the big deal?

There are lot of web proxies that do exactly this. You type in a url and it fetches it. Some are crappy but some are half decent. Probably easy to code/host yourself too and more trusting. Some of those have adware crap so if you dont have firefox at work you'll get badly infected with stuff like the fake antivirus 2008 crap.

And how would this be different from using a proxy?

Easier to do. Instead of always being in a proxy (configured for it), you would just go to something like www.rehostme.com/yahoo.com and it would download yahoo.com and display it.

look to RedSquirrel's post above.
simply go to certain proxy websites and type in an address, and it'll work, unless the traffic software your employer uses has proxy site blacklists.

a simple google search for proxy websites reveals a ton.
http://www.kortaz.com/ has a decent compilation of websites. Not sure if any have the functionality you mentioned, where you can just type in www.proxy.com/sitedesired.com, but one extra step isn't difficult. :p

Or if you're paranoid setup a SSL proxy on your own host, (web type - I'm sure you can find a script online to do it). That way you bypass stuff like websense too, which I think runs at the packet level if I'm not mistaken. (checks actual content for keywords like sex)

So what you're saying is, if you're at work, and your employer doesn't want you looking at certain things, you should bypass it? :p
