The folks over at Slashdot have posted a story about DARPA (the people who brought you the Internet, kinda) and their new project to create a 2-way, handheld language translator called Project Babylon. You can take a look at the project's public web site here or see a (badly done) PowerPoint presentation. I second the suggestion to give William Shatner the first working unit out of respect.
