Does anyone know if there is a FITBIT type product out there that provides what the advertisement attempts to say it does?

* Constant heart rate monitor

* Real time calories burned, not just 'steps' walked converted to estimates

I have a Charge HR and it does as advertised. Not 100% perfect but for $129 (CDN) I'm not complaining.

I'm pretty sure that it factors HR into the calories burned calculation but I haven't really tested it thoroughly specifically relating to that claim. Actually I'm not even sure how I'd test that.

Charge HR, Jawbone up 3, Basis Peak Watch. What type of physical activities are you planning on doing? if you arent doing anything extremely physical the fitbit is the best option.

Well say you are going to do some really intense weight lifting, play paintball for 8 hours, hike for the whole day, camp and repeat…

Would one of those 3 be able to handle such an activity list?

I have been using the Charge HR since it was released, my main activity is weight lifting. During my workouts the HR is never accurate and that is a known issue with the fitbit, it sucks at measing HR during any strenuous exercise that involves arm movement. From my brief research the UP 3 is pretty crappy. I believe the HR on the Basis watch is pretty good.

The best is wearing a HR Strap, but not ideal for a 24/7 reading.

Charge HR seems ok for me for HR. It'll be within a few beats though it does take a bit of time to recognize a pulse change. e.g. when you start lifting and your heart starts to speed up it likely won't pick up the speed change for a minute or two - too long for weightlifting. For cardio/running/walking, etc it's great though.

Nothing you can wear currently will measure calories burned with any sort of accuracy.

HR is about the best you can do.
