yeah, i wish it were today, but I had that gut feeling, and Im even thinking that the date in the link isn't going to open the floodgates, its gonna be a few here and there...i'd say mid july we see the cards out and about.

yep... I was originally planning on getting a GF 6800 Ultra, but it doesn't seem liley that they will be available in any numbers anytime soon. I went ahead and pre-ordered an X800 XT from CDW... Hopefully it will get here sometime this month.

Wasn't that site trying to sell X800Pro's for $450 also?

EDIT: Oh, I'm sorry, it's actually $505 for the retail version. Stupid link didn't work. I guess it was just the ATI version they were trying to sell for $505, and I see there are others for less. But still, their prices seem to be quite a bit higher than I remember. So maybe they aren't as bad as I first thought, but I still wouln't trust their prices.

I think they are in the habit of ripping people off, and that the "Retail Price" they are quoting is actually $405 instead of $485. I wouldn't put much stock in anything that site has to say.

-D'oh!

I can wait a few weeks to get some new tech. My 5800Ultra runs everything I have well anyway, with the possible exception of Painkiller vs AA/AF.

It's gonna be real hard me to buy this card unless it overclocks massive. Every reviewer out there is telling me X800XT is the best video card and now it can be had for less than the mid range GT.:(

well i wouldnt exactly call it a "midrange" card. the GT is like the 9800pro in last years round, now we wouldnt call that midrange would we? A 6600 would be considered mid range, im really drawn in by SM3.0 on these Nv cards which i think (in my opinion) will punnish an XT in IQ in future.

Midrange of the highend nVidia trifecta is what I meant...I mean does any serious gamer buy 5700's or 5200's ie second and third tier cards?

This is a place of hardware nuts who want to run their games with lots of eye candy.
Hardcore gamers have very fast rigs, average gamers will go with the 5700's and 9600's of this world.
This is representative of hardware gamers, not average gamers.

Nvidia has made 50-100 6800 Ultras so far and has sold them all through Compusa yesterday excepting the press samples and the giveaways from their lan.
They are like the Lamborghinis of video cards. One per day is all they can make. Im sure there will be twice as many 6800 GTs though so do not worry.

Those willing to actually wait a month should have no problem buying GTs for less than X800XTs. Beyond that, I don't even think I could buy a X800 anything now with the fine cheater drivers enabling the texture shimmer and distortion feature.

If ATI would figure out how to disable their brilinear, they'd be a lot easier to recommend.

Frankly I don't understand all this cheating accusations nor do I care to get into it (too heated from what I can tell). I'm so lazy in fact all I read if the hardware sites last page conclusions to make my choices on these video cards, skipping all the rest. I simply defer to the "experts". Most if not all have said x800xt is the winner by a slim margin. Then I hear the GT is fully "unlocked" meaning above 6850 levels for us industrious overclcokers. So if it less money as you say, it's definity in my cart. :)

The XT beats the GT by more than a slim margin.

Is it just me or does the site say Retail 405.00, Our Price 450.00, Save you 35.00. What math is this that they are doing?

You can make a GF4 beat a X800XT by looking at lower IQ, so I'd say it doesn't really matter what any X800 is doing now.
As you can turn off brilinear on nVidia cards and get the best possible IQ, and you have to look at the shimmering and distortion with ATI, I guess it comes down to what you prefer:
Perfect IQ at great framerates, or flawed IQ at better framerates.
(unless you consider the impact of the Far Cry and Painkiller patches to SM3, and the other games upcoming, and Doom3, and linux, and mpeg encoding)
Oh well. The X800XT is starting to seem like a latter day V5-6K to me. Old tech at a new price.
