I am planning to go for this RIG

Intel Dual Core E2160 Allendale 1.8GHz 1MB L2 Cache
XFX 650i
OCZ Platinum Revision 2 2GB (2 x 1GB)
MSI NX8600GT-T2D256E OC GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3
COOLER MASTER eXtreme Power RP-650
Cooler Master Centurion
ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 64 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver 5

I plan to overclock this processor to upto 3.0ghz. Now, I wanna know will this overclock kill processor life I want it to run for atleast 4 years. And, do i have to do something before I apply the arctic silver 5.

Waiting for your comments.

Will this Computer be able to handle Halo 2, Bioshock & MOH Air Bourne at 1024*768 with all settings at high ?

Get the E6600, overclocks alot better and has more cache.

Aslong as you dont over do the vcore, it'l be fine. Mine cpu can reach 3.2Ghz easy but I like to "rest" it at 2.8 Ghz. Make sure your temps are fine (not over 65 at full load) and Vcore no more then 1.45 you should be ok.

The processor will last quite some time. But why not go with a p35 mobo, so you can drop in a penryn qaudcore in a year or two when you got some money to spend? And Make sure you get the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler, and not the 64 pro, which will be a hard fit 😛

Oh and yeah, you need a better videocard. A 8800gts 320mb or a 2900pro 256mb. No need for the 640mb version when you play at 1024*768.

Thanks for the advice marc but can u tell me whther I have to applu the arctic silver 5 directly or is there some old grease on it which i need to run.....How is the biostar p35 I am in India so Gigabyte P35 prices are touching the roof here.....

MarcVenice, will my board support penryn?

I don't think the XFX 650i supports 45nm cpu's. It does support the q6600 though, but I guess that CPU will be phased out when penryn hits the market. As for the as5, no you apply it directly. You can find a guide on their website which explains EXACTLY how to do it. And if the biostar is a p35 mobo, then yes, it will support penryn...
