I am looking into purchasing a 6800gt.
Everyone says, and there are good reviews, on the eVGA 6800gt. But this is around 280 (dollars) for the 256mb version. That's a tad out of my budget...
So I looked around and found an Asus (a reputable brand as far as other computer components go) for 240 (dollars), apparently the same card. (256mb).

What is the real difference here that can jack up the price? Is it worth buying the eVGA or are they essiantally the same?
 
Well actually Zip Zoom Fly is the only place that has the Asus's price so low.. so I don't know what thats all about, but still the question remains, is there any difference?
 
If you already have PCI-e then you might want to check out the 6800GS, especially if you are going to be overclocking. At stock speeds they are very close, overclocking closes the gap even more. Not bad for a 12 piper, and it costs a lot less. I think the 6800GT has a little more O/C headroom because of lower stock clocks, but the GS is on the new 110nm fab, so there is lots of potential there too.

How come I have never heard anything of a 6800gs??!

It gets pretty much 1 to 2 frames per second less than a gt on stock, and the specs are pretty much the same as well. But the best part, as you said is it costs almost 100 dollars less!
Looks like I know what to ask for for Christmas.....eVGA 6800gs. 🙂
