Why discuss the topics of "body roll" and "cornering" and performance in general when it comes to sub-$20k cars that we 18 to 23 year olds are most likely to purchase? Doesn't that strike you as somewhat ridiculous?

Person 1: "My Corolla can wipe the floor with your Civic in cornering."
Person 2: "D00d no way, if I do a NSX engine swap you're dust!!!11"

I mean, come on. Sure, horsepower is one thing - engine power and acceleration are safety features when you get right down to it. But cornering ability? I doubt many here are going to be taking our cars to Nurburgring anytime soon.

My name is sully, and I drive a 2002 Nissan Sentra GXE. I have never measured my 0-100 km/h time, because I know in advance that my car is slow. I don't know why people discuss performance concerns in sub-$20k cars. They're commuter vehicles, save a very few exceptions. Realize. :p

You don't really know that much about cars, do you?

It's okay man, one day you'll learn. :)

Seeing as how 99% of the users here are NOT enlightened, I think you are wasting your time.
Be that as it may, any topic that concerns performance should be fine to talk about.

Actually, by the time I was in grade 12, I had taken apart and put together an engine on my own. It (sort of) ran afterwards too. I just wonder why so many people bother to analyze performance statistics on cars that will never, ever take part in anything competitive.

Dude, my Geo Metro will dominate your VW Bug. When people hear the roar of the powerful inline-3 they know the Metro is no joke.

My car is noticably slower with 200 pounds of kitty litter in the trunk.

*shrug* I know there are Focuses, Proteges, and Minis that have been able to hang with much more expensive cars on an AutoX course with little to no modding. Given the right drivers, that is.

You're right, the majority of people who get into e-penis wars over their econoboxes won't ever really push their cars to the limits, but it doesn't mean that discussing relative performance characteristics is just a waste of time.

The fact that body roll and cornering doesn't really matter that much on the normal 65mph US highways and 35mph city driving makes me laugh even more, but hey it's fun to discuss.

I like the feel of driving a couch on my short drive to work. Body roll and soft setups 0wnz me. :p
But yeah I still like to own a M5 (prev gen.)
