A question on the hsf included with a retail 1800+

How loud is it? HOw does it peform ? I am only going to do some minor overclocking (network card can't handle it) Will that hsf suffice ?

Well, considering how my 1700+ can get up to 65C when under a heavy load, I'd say it's best that you don't do any really huge overclocks...

Oh, and for loudness, it isn't loud at all 🙂

Well, the HSF that was included in the AMD Giveaway (7 months ago) appeared to be a Coolermaster series
Not too bad for noise, but not the most efficient cooler either- I was able to push it to 1900 before the heat got above 55

pick up a taisol copper bottom one. it is nice and quiet. or a az-7 with a quite 80 MM fan

it is my understanding that taisol does most of the "retail" heatsinks for AMD

please correct me if i am mistaken

Nearly all the retail heatsinks I've seen from AMD lately are coolermaster units.

They are quiet, and they cool the cpu adequately even if they are the only fan other than the power supply in a case (just don't expect them to work well in a micro ATX case or something silly like that).

They are not the best heatsink out there for getting temperatures as low as possible, but, they keep the cpu within normal operating parameters, and that is all 99.9% of consumers out there want them to do. If you are an overclocker you should investigate other options.
