A question of legality ...

Hi Everyone

At my school, we get academic (free) versions of Microsoft software products. To get them, I go to the site and download them and burn them onto a CD. There is a legitimate license number, and also a receipt, but it just shows that I paid $0.00 for it. Here's my question: am I allowed to sell or trade them here? I wouldn't do it if it were not legal.

I'm fairly certain you cannot do that here. Your license agreement no doubt says you cannot do it.

read the license agreement, it is probably only legal for you to own them while you're a student or something

ours are $15 for the same thing. It is illegal to sell them, but then it's probably illegal to use them for just about anything except school work.maybe i ought to actually read that.... nah don't think so

That part seems sketchy, at best. If you were trading with me Academic software, the least I'd expect is the original media along with the license...

It's perfectly legal for him to burn the CD, what he's describing sounds exactly like MS's Campus licensing program.

However...

Selling, trading, etc. is a no-no.

Sorry, I guess that's what I meant. Some academic distributions give out actual media with the license and some terms let you give/trade to other academically qualified party.

Trading is just selling for an asset other than cash. If selling it is a violation of the COLS, I would think trading would come under the same restrictions.
