I expressed my interest in buying something in the FS/T forum. And I get a PM from a person with a link to an e-bay auction with the same product I was looking for. The person was the person selling the product on e-bay. I dont think thats against the rules for that forum but its pretty close to bending them. Was that appropriate for them to do so?

hrm im not to familiar with FS/FT but i would think they should just have a price or you guys would negotiate, not an Ebay Auction.

While it may not be spelled out exactly in the rules, it is generally considered a no-no.

So should I do something about it or should I just let it go?

It is against the rules to post an eBay item in For Sale/Trade, but I feel as though the member that PMed you was only trying to help you out in your search. He probably already had the item up on eBay so all he could do is send a link to you. IMO I don't see anything wrong with what that member did because he was only trying to help out another member and he did so through PM. Nobody was hurt and no damage was done. It is up to you if you want to bid on the item.

well i would just let it go for now... it doesn't sound like he was trying to scam you or anything (yet)... just some questionable ethics. no harm done, right?

I don't see anything wrong with it, unless they won't leave you alone like a poodle on your leg, that would be different.

I think I misunderstood what happened.

I thought he PMed someone about their thread, and the other person PMed him back an auction link.

As I think I understand it now, you posted a WTB thread, and someone sent you an auction link to the wanted product, it was just an auction they had. I really dont have an issue with that, you have a choice to pursue the item at ebay or not, depends on how bad you need it.

I'd just let it go...they're not using the FS/FT forum as their own little advertising space...

You said you wanted something, they knew where it was available, they let you know about it...

My thought exactly b0mbrman. Remember, he "PM'ed you," as in "Private Message," InverseOfNeo, meaning for your eyes only, you make the call. His PM cannot be considered an "advertisement" IMHO.
