Depends on the person though, both with chicks and guys.
I look like ass with long hair, used to have shoulder long while I was in school, heh, in hindsight I looked like a moron.
My sister cut her hair really short for a while, even shaved it all off once or twice, but she's one of those chicks that can actually pull that off without looking butch or just plain awful.

Oh and I'm a guy, so to the horny teenagers around here, please spare me the nasty PM's.

I get fussed at by my friend if I cut my hair too short. She won't tell me how I "should" cut my hair though. I, as a guy, think that long hair looks weird on guys. I guess it's growing up in a military family that does it.

My wife hates long hair too. My own views are that long hair looks fantastic in movies on guys when they touch it up and use the right lighting and whatnot. In person it almost always comes off scruffy or power-ballad-y.

The longest I go is roughly Beatles length.
