<< All the times I've said it, it meant "I really enjoy your company and I think we could be more than friends." That's just me, though. >>

Bingo. That's all I've ever meant by it either.

<< Is that the same as 'love'? Or does it just mean, 'When I see you I get a stiffy'? >>

To men, "I love you" is synonymous with "when I see you I get a stiffy", they are the same thing. I for one don't say "I love you" to someone who doesn't give me a stiffy...unless we're talking about my mom or something. lol!

Ok, since for men the stiffy comes long before the 'feelings', then it depends on whether or not the guy is being honest with you. If he's just trying to get in yer pants, then he's gonna claim to be Jesus Christ if he believes that will get him somewhere.

If he's being honest, then I assume it means he really likes you...more than just on the level of 'stiffies'.

Well, guys say stuff, like "Nice dress" or "You look great tonite" for that one...

Usually, when I think about 'feelings for you', it's usually when a guy says it, like others have said, more than sexual attraction...
but I think the circumstance for it is when a guy changes his outlook about a girl he has known or related to in another way.

I think it's a way to express to a platonic female friend that you really enjoy her company and wish to advance to a romantic relationship.

EDIT:

<< The person who told me he had 'feelings' for me also told me he doesn't think he has ever loved anyone. Except his mother, lol... >>

Ummm...does the Mister know about this? Perhaps a misunderstanding on my part Isla, but I would NEVER use the "I have feelings for you" line on someone else's wife or girlfriend (especially a friend). Look to the first sentence of my post 'cause I believe that's what he's thinking.

Ahhhhh.... I'm glad I asked!

Not only am I getting some great input here, I see some of the ATers I have the most 'feelings' for have come out, too. ;)

:D :D :D :D

Anyway, from what I am gathering from your input, I think he did sortakinda love me but realized that was kind of a dangerous proposition and backed out before it got out of hand, unlike the Mister who just got out his horsewhip and saddle and set out to break me. :p

I think sometime's it means.

I want to say I love you, but if you don't love ME then you'll freak out and run off. So I'll just say "I have feelings for you." that way we are both safe!

it depends on the particular man.... take it for face value... you'll eventually find out in two or three days

IMHO, "I have feelings for you" is manspeak for "I want to admit I love you but..." (of course what comes after the 'but' depends on the scenario). For example: "I have feelings for my ex" can be interpreted as "I still love my ex but she has a new bf". Or, "I have feelings for Jane Doe" can be interpreted as "I think I'm falling in love with Jane Doe, but I don't want to admit that in case the feeling is not mutual".

I personally, would only use that phrase for somebody I was either in love with or falling in love with. I would never use that on a platonic friend. The only time guys will ever intimately open up like this and speak about their "feelings" (i.e. they'll actually refer to what they're about to describe as their feelings) is when romantic love is in the air.

I'm assuming these are good feelings. It's not a nauseous feeling is it? :D What it might be is that 1. He finds himself thinking about that person more than a little bit and 2. He reacts a certain way when he hears/sees her and 3. He is not sure or won't admit that it is love because he is not sure the feelings will be reciprocated. I am basing all this on personal experience but it has been 15 years since I have had to deal with this sort of emotional turmoil so my memory may be wrong.

when I say "I have feelings for you" it means several things.

1. I like you, I really really like you.
2. I would like to see more of you.
3. I am only saying this because I think there is at least a small chance you'll return those words.
4. I really think I'm fallin in love with you, but I think that would scare you if I said it.
5. This is also the reason why I always act like a jackass around you.
6. If you don't return those words, chances are I'll break out into tears ....... for the next 4 days.
7. I want to sleep with you, but I'm not asking yet because in our relationship, whatever level it's at, we're not ready for that yet.
8. Ok, I lied, let's screw. (j/k)

If it were me, it'd prolly mean "I COULD very easily fall in love with you, but I don't wanna get hurt". my 2 cents

I think it could mean many different things depending on whom it was coming from but speaking for myself it would probably mean something like, "I am romatically attracted to you, I almost certainly love you, and I just might be falling for you". I will say though that in such a situation I would probably either just come right out and say, "I love you" or keep my mouth shut until I had a better feel for the way the other party felt.

Hrmmmm.

Don't know, sounds like he's too scared to say what he really means.
I know some guys that say that just because the think it's what the girl wants to hear and she will make it mean whatever she wants it to mean. (Hopefully that made sense.)

Personally, I think it's a cope out phrase. A person should say what they mean or just not say anything at all.

I said "I have feelings for you" because I was scared of the loaded phrase, "I love you".

Depends on the person I think. I would have to know the personality of the guy. I would think that it means that person would like to get to know you as well as he can, if you catch my drift.

Frankly, Most men are thinking of sex 90% of the time ( Yes I am a guy, and that is what I think about :) ) I have only met a few women where sex did not enter into my thought process. And no, it wasn't because they were ugly :) Just because it woludn't feel right. ( yes, I sound like a girl on that thought, so sue me. )

That guy could actually mean that he has feelings, and if so, that probably means he is thinking beyond sex. Like waking up for the rest of his life, and seeing you first thing.

My last GF dumped me because I never said "I Love You", because I didn't. I really liked her, and she had a great personality, but she and myself never "clicked" and yes, we are "Biblicly" married. :)

<<Not that it matters, but there has been something that has bothered me for a long, long time.

What does a guy mean when he says he has 'feelings' for you? Is that the same as 'love'? Or does it just mean, 'When I see you I get a stiffy'?

I'm really curious to hear your responses. Thank you in advance.>>

Isla,
We get a "stiffy" when the wind blows. It probably means more than that, if the guy is honest at all. I could just be soft soap. If the guy is honest, it means he is fond of you. He finds pleasure being around you, more so than he does with his guy friends. Does it mean he love's you? Absolutely not!
