A question for athiests..

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
Since most people here seem to have that faith, I just have a few curious questions.

Let's assume the Bible really does turn out to be a very well written fiction book, and there is no God and no heaven and no hell. Let's skip over, how the big bang started, and just assume it happened and it's explainable, to keep things simple.

Ok so that said now let's talk about death. So what exactly do you believe happens after death? Your consciousness/self awareness can't just end, it has to keep going. When you sleep, you are either dreaming, or time "Fast forwards" to when you wake up, either way there is always a full path of self awareness. So how would death work? Does your life just repeat itself but you just don't remember? Or do you get reincarnated and just don't remember your past life? I suppose you could get reincarnated to another planet, once this one is gone such as when the sun burns out. Or do you just see a void for eternity? (that would seriously suck, you can't even be bored to death, because you're already dead!) Something has to happen. What is it?

At least don't make a troll/religion thread with a false premise.

Provide links that prove this point and I say this thread is valid. 😉

Remember what it was like before you were born? That is what it is like when you die, until you can prove otherwise. I know what it is like to be not-alive, so you have to prove to me otherwise that it is different when I am not-alive again.

I stopped reading there, no point going further if your entire argument is based on a false premise.

Ok so if your consciousness can really end, how can you even explain that? So you are self aware how does that just, end?

And yes it takes as much faith to be an atheist as it does to be any other religion. IMO it's just any other belief system. Some religions worship certain Gods, some worship animals, some worship things, others worship nothing, but at the end of the day, it's a belief system.

Oh and this is not to bash atheists, I'm legitimately curious. Not that I'm planning to switch over, just curious, is all.

At least you are looking for validation of your faith by posting here. Most religious people shy away from true debate about their faith, because they know their logic will get torn to shreds. This means you are actually questioning the crap being forced down your throat, which is a good sign.

Just know that if you ever decide that maybe all of the mystical stories you have read are complete bullshit, your family will still love you. They may talk about you behind your back because you are a godless communist, but they still love you.

If you want a religious echo-chamber, this is not the place. And I think you knew that before hand, so I commend you. But I still think we get too many of these threads...

Think about volatile memory. Once instant there is an ordered set of information, the next it is just gone. When our brains die the cellular structures holding the patterns of information that be us decay and the information dissolves away.

Are you fucking retarded?

Smash a CPU with a hammer and it won't compute anymore. When you die the cells in your brain disintegrate, hence your consiousness is gone.

Well, how do we know what is true, and what is false?

there is very basic biology that can explain that whatever happens after death of the brain is going to be nothing like what we observe with sleep/coma/delirium etc.

consciousness is defined and reaction to stimulus and dead people don't have that. and like others have said, we don't have any observable evidence that anything happens after you die.

Were you conscious/self aware when you were not already born? I suppose being dead is just like that.

Actually this is something that has always baffled me as well. How did it, start? This is where reincarnation almost makes sense. Your memory is cleared (given the physical medium is gone) so you don't actually remember what happened before but it did happen. Kinda like when you have a dream but you don't remember it. At some point, you were self aware in that situation.

Electronic equipment was never self aware to begin with. Even "true AI" is not really self aware, it's just a set of instructions based on a preset of conditional checks.
