So, i've got a bit of a conundrum on my hands.

I leased a 2011 335i sedan right as I begun grad school in Florida not intending to keep it once school ended.

Well, the opportunity to move back to CA presented itself and I jumped on it, but it also meant my commute would go up a bit, so i'll be hitting the lease mileage cap before maturity.
I actually am interested in purchasing the vehicle out after the lease is up because I truly do love it, not interested in the F30 gen at all so turning it in for a new one is a nonoption.

So i've got some options at this point:

Buy 3k extra miles and turn it in afterwards and buy a loaded accord/fusion

Buy off at the end

Only problem is that my residual is 32k, a bit more than I'd like to spend on buying it off. I've read that its negotiable on some of the BMW forums but i don't put much faith in if you are able to or not.

So....as someone whose going to have a hellacious work schedule for the next 4-5 years post grad what would you all suggest? I'd love to keep the car but only if the price is right, and the knocking to get something more practical for the time being is a little loud. Ideally id like to be able to negotiate some sort of extended warranty into the process as well since I really wont have time to mess with it come graduation.

I'm actually in a somewhat similar situation except with an F30. Interested to see where this goes.

My forum searching has lead me to believe they don't negotiate residuals anymore, but that could be wrong.

Provided the total $$ outlay to buy at the end of the lease is reasonable, see if they'll also convert it to CPO for no additional $$. That may make it more worth it.

BMW will (would, it's been awhile since I tried) not negotiate before the lease matures. They will work with you when it's close though.

How long left on the existing? You could see if any dealers would be willing to pull ahead the lease. My fiancee did this, she ended up not rolling any of the last 5 payments into the new car, the dealer paid it off as part of the negotiation.

BMW seriously pads their residuals to lure in leasees due to the lower depreciation charges on the lease. This makes buyouts unappealing normally as they are artificially inflated.

Residual is 32k for a space gray sedan with sport, premium, navi. I also have non RFT tires on it right now so figure in more for that if I turn it back in. If they were willing to do 30k with the warranty I would bite. I've seen a few examples at carmax with similar miles going for less than 32k which is why I say that. I figure they would save a few bucks on having to turn the car over/gain a customer for life here but not quite sure what is possible.

I also have a lame duck 335i made in the first half of 2011 that has the tweeters deleted, the gimped combox with no BT streaming and a few other deleted features that were added in later. That seriously pissed me off because the previous 335i i looked at had all of these so when I purchased mine I didn't notice it. If i kept it I'd like to upgrade the speakers (the 6 speaker system is trash) so I was hoping that would be a point of contention for me.

What does pulling ahead the lease entail?

Just a quick question:
Do you have student loans?
If you do, when do you have to start paying them back?

In my fiancee's case the dealer called for payoff on her 2010 Mazda3, agreed to pay it if she leased a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He got screwed because we agreed to all that before working on the numbers of the new Jeep. That was when we pulled out the employee pricing card. Since that number cannot be raised, only lowered, he had to give it to us for what Chrysler deemed to be the price. They did give us all kinds of grief about how they were going to lose money, but that is car negotiations, I guess.

It was pretty painless, though. Drive up with old car, signpaperwork, swap plates, and off you go. As far as the dealer was concerned it was the same as paying off a lease. They just called Chase and had Chase come and get the car, as far as I know that was it. The best part was that she ended getting a check from Chase for $700 due to under mileage and overpayments on the dealer's part. Oops
