My friend wants to upgrade now that he has seen me playing crysis 1920*1200 on high "4850x2".... He was offered a used 9800 GX2 for about $200 + 9800 gtx but this was before GTX was launched and i told him not to buy it and wait...

Now 9800 GX2 has proven itself and he wants to buy a card to play 1920*1200 on crysis... I told him to get a GTX 260 the seller said she recommended a 9800 GX2!!!

Dont you all think in the long run GTX 260 is a better bet than the 9800 GX2?? BTW She said GTX 260 will take about a month to arrive...!!

I personally would get either a gtx 260 or 4870. they both should arrive around the same time and should be close in performance. I agree that long term they should both be better than a 9800gx2.

Before recommending 9800GX2 I would suggest the much cheaper SLI 8800GT setup (or better yet, SLI 8800GTS for just a bit more cash and much better heat management).

He and i have asus p5k P's and that means no SLi for us only CF while i like ATi's new set up he thinks that these are tooo much work and wants a single card..

I told him to pre book GTX 260 but the seller said a 9800 GX2 is better frankly i am thinking she wants to dump her old 9800 gx2's on the people and make a profit!!!

Looking at specs and current benchmarks it seems 4870 is going to end up between GTX260 and 280 (small chance of it being worse than 260 or better than 280, but not too likely) and be much cheaper. Of course, GTX260 prices will probably drop too, so it's best to take a wait and see attitude.
