I have about six to ten old hard drives I've decided to sell locally through Craigslist. I was going to put them on E-bay and allow the market to decide their value, but I no longer enjoy the E-bay process, the fees, and how E-bay favors buyers over sellers.

My question is, how do you determine what the correct value and sale price of a used hard drive is? For instance, I have four of those Western Digital Elements 2TB hard drives in a Media Sonic enclosure that I'd like to sell as one unit, but I am having a hard time determining what a fair price would be for it. Brand new, the enclosure and four hard drives was around $500, but that was two years ago and I don't trust these cheap Elements hard drives to last a whole lot longer. I personally wouldn't pay jack for a used hard drive, so their value to me is VERY LOW. But I don't want to sell them for peanuts if I can get decent money for them.

What is the normal protocol for selling used hard drives?

The first thing you do is post this in the For Sale/Trade Forum. I'll request a move for you.

iluvdeal's suggestion is the consensus of senior mods.

Basically, price checks are not allowed in this forum. You can Google "Used Hard Drives" and get some idea.

Check ebay and/or Craig's List, and then if you decide to post for selling, initiate a new thread in the FS/T Forum. Good luck!

Like the poster below said, advocating fraud is frowned upon here.

all you can do is compare what similar items are worth currently, then see what the used market is offering (complexted auctions) and go from there. If you want them gone sooner, ask for less than what they seem to be going for.
