My workouts are pretty basic. Basketball when I can and if I can't play that day I'll lift after work (provided that I didn't lift the day before) following a stronglifts A/B routine (squat, Dl, BB Rows, Bench, Press). Clearly I'm not an endurance athlete but I ran a 5k today because a coworker was organizing it and in the 5 hours since I have had 4 bowel movements and I can feel another one building up. Is the run really causing this or is it a function of a bad diet? It's a bit concerning to me...

I think it makes some people shit. I remember before I ran my marathon there was this huge line around all the buildings and all the guys were taking turns dropping their pants to take a shit. There were all these urinals that went unused.

Exercise WILL stimulate GI movement, but this could be completely unrelated...

Are the stools fully formed or are they liquid/foamy/etc.? Have you eaten anything differently recently, or are you lactose intolerant?

Uh . . . from a 5K? There's 'movement' post marathon, but a 5K shouldn't leave any lingering affects. What did you eat before, during, and after the run?

I've never had a short distance run cause this kind of effect on me. 10 miles and up and my bowels get a jolt, but only if my guts are full.

yeah I've run before (though not in the past year) and never had this problem. I ate ravioli and chessy bread last night night and oatmeal in the morning. The stools were all fully formed. Problem seems to be gone today.... wierd.

Hmm, maybe you're mildly lactose intolerant...? Even if not, dairy in large quantities often doesn't sit well with most people.
