A question about retail hsf with Athlon XP 1600+

😱 I have just bought the retail AMD athlon XP 1600+ from New Egg with an ECS K7S5A mobo, and I am curious as to what brand of hsf comes with retail athlon xp's. any and all help will be greatly appreciated. Also, will this be enough to keep it cool, with no o/c'ing and a side and back case fan (300 watt PS). Thanks, alcopro

The heatsink/fan is adequate. People who have poor case ventilation or plan on overclocking often opt for a better fan but running at normal speeds, there is no need to. AMD uses different vendors for HSF but they usually are Taisol or CoolerMaster.

It may be a Coolermaster. The one on my Athlon XP 1800+ is identical to the Coolermaster DP56H-11. In an Antec SX 1000 case with 2 80mm exhaust fans and one intake fan, I get case temps of around 26-28C and CPU temps of around 42C idle, 46C under load. Not bad for a stock HSF.
