A Question About FireWire...

I'm assuming that native firewire(mobo support) is faster then say, through my Sound Blaster...correct?
I use the firewire support through my soundcard now and it seems to work fine, but by going through the soundcard I'm also going through the PCI bus right? Firewire through the PCI bus isn't going to be as fast as native firewire support? I really like the GA-8INXP mobo...but it doesn't have firewire support, but I do have a SB card which does offer firewire support...?

I don't think you'll notice much difference one way or the other. I am now finishing up a new system with Firewire on the mobo, and I also have one with Firewire on a PCI card. The applications using those devices are not noticeably different. What devices are ypu currently using? Mine are CD/RW and external HDDs.

corky...
Sorry, I was looking for the GA-8INXP....I'm using a mini-dv viewcam...still pictures and video editing.....

When capturing video from a DV cam, it only goes as fast as the movie plays anyway. It takes 1 Hr to capture 1 Hr of video. Doesn't matter.

Thanks ya "old Fart"...lol Thanks...I didn't realize that, I've only downloaded a couple of minutes worth of recordings, HOLY SMOKES...I'll be forever downloading footage! We're expecting a newborn soon...I've been playing around with ulead-lite...any recomandations on decent video editing software?

Adobe Premiere is pretty good albeit expensive.

I use a couple of them. I use Pinnacle Studio 7 for capture, editing and some conversions such as to small WMV files for email, etc. For converting to MPEG2 for SVCD use, I use TMPGEnc.

ok...maybe you two could help me with this next question...I'd like to make a dvd/cd with our baby's birth and first day home kind of movie to send to the rest of the family...I'm getting a sony dru 500a(if it ever gets here!) Will one software package out there do what I want to do...I'd like to do scene fades, some added music in the background, maybe a title or two and be able to burn it to different mediums...dvd and cd ?

The Pinnacle Studio package can do all of that. Version 8 also has DVD authoring I believe. One thing to be aware of. A burned CD (SVCD or VCD) may not play in every home DVD player. Do you have a DVD burner? Where will these be played? PC or home DVD player?

yes, that is a good question, my mother has a cd player in her computer, I don't think she has one connected to their tv though...(hey, I just though of a good christmas gift for her!) I asked her if she has a dvd player and she said she didn't, so she'll have to play the movie on her puter...I'll have to ask the rest of the family what type of cd/dvd players they have...we have a dvd player...the sony I'm waiting for burns in multiple formats...i appreciate you time old fart....🙂

If they get a new DVD player, be sure they get one that supports VCD/SVCD. This way, you can make them movies that they can watch on the TV instead of the PC.

A very good site is VCDHelp.com
