A question about Dual-Channel DDR. . .

Is it possible to run Dual-channel DDR as single channel DDR in either a single or dual-channel motherboard?

Thanks in advance.

Ya, I believe you just have to place the memory in the non-DC RAM slots on a DC board. The RAM will work fine on a single channel board, all DC RAM has just been verified to work in DC without issues, but it doesn't mean you have to run it in DC.

You have the right idea, but I think the message came out wrong. The RAM slots are the same, it's just the way you arrange the RAM sticks that determines if it will be in dual channel mode or not.

That's ultimately what I meant, the arrangment they go in. Haha, I got a little mixed up in the middle of typing that...

Yes, just place them in a certain arrangement.

Refer to the motherboard manual about that.

I have an NFS-7 v1.2 and surprisingly, the manual says absolutely nothing about this feature. The post screen does say dual channel enabled though ever since I put a memory stick in the slot.

OK, maybe I'm confused.... I didn't think it was so much dual channel DDR, as it was support on the motherboard that determined dual channel? For example, I just ordered 2 sticks of Kingston Value RAM, 512MB DDR PC3200 for my A7N8X-E Deluxe. I was hoping to run that in dual channel mode...and thought I would be able to. A reviewer of the RAM (granted, it's a Newegg customer reviewing it) indicates that they run it in the same board in dual channel. So now I'm really confused...will I be able to run this dual channel as I thought, or is there some special dual channel RAM that is needed? I thought as long as the RAM was the same amount and speed, and in the correct slots on the mobo, that it would run dual channel. Please help clear up my confusion!

I run 2 Kingston ValueRAM 512MB PC3200 sticks in dual channel on my A7N8X Deluxe no problem.

There's nothing special about dual channel RAM. They're just plain old RAM guaranteed to work together.

For the most part, that's true. However, for the best stability/compatibility, you should use identical sticks. What a chore it was for me to find a second stick of Twinmos/Winbond BH5 after it had all been sold! When I emailed MemoryX about mixing BH5 and CH5 he recommended against it, but YMMV.
