I went in to a local computer repair/assembly/sales place a few days ago and asked for a job. Today I brought in my resume. The owner told me that if he didnt call by wednesday its because he gets really busy and may have spaced out calling. He then said to just come in and he'll hire me then. The guy owns the place and apparently is the sole worker. There is a women there too, but I think she handles the books and secretary stuff. I'll be working part-time, which is one main reason he wants me there, so he can take some evenings off. My question is for this kind of job, what is a fair hourly wage for me to request? I've never worked for a computer place, and am interested in what everyone thinks is fair for this. Obviously, its more complex than a fast food place, and they get paid $6.50 to $7 here. I was a busser before and including tips made about $7-$10.

$7-10/hour... it's really only ever so slightly more challenging than fast food.

Actually, making a good hamburger takes more skill than assembling a PC...

I agree, but assembling a computer is a mentally challenging prospect for someone who doesnt understand how easy it is. And the workforce around here, lightly put, is very ignorant and the sect that understands computers is very small. But I will go with your advice and probably ask for 8.

We'd get $15.00 each and knock off 2 an hour easily. Easy money if I must say.

I know it as the computer place by Taco John's. Sorry I didnt catch the name. I never went in before I walked in on Friday, but behind the counter were 5 open computers, so I knew it was close to my mentallity. Can you explain why it was a nightmare?
