Hi All: Have question hope someone can answer. I just set up an RMA with Maxtor for a 60G 7200Rpm 2MB Cache HD that is Vibrating wildly and is very loud. Well it hasn't failed; but no doubt will soon. Anyway, has anyone out there received a replacement HD from Maxtor from a RMA?

What I'm curios is did you get a Brand New HD, or was it refurbished On their website they say for replacements they mail you a 'Re-certified drive.'

Also I'm wondering If I'll get the same exact model HD that I have now, the 5T060H6 with 2MB cache or would I get a drive with a 8MB cache?

Anyone have a idea. Thanks

on the only Maxtor I had to RMA(make sure to send in an approved shiping container..preferably the retail box type overboxed for even better protection..) a 20GB 7.5k ..rec'd a 40GB 7.2k in return ..:) ymmv

Okay thanks for the reply.

Now does anyone think that the 'Re-Certified' Drive I get will be of any less quality than a Brand New Retail drive? What I mean, is I hope this one doesn't fail or cause problems a few months down the line. Anyone have a idea?

Thanks

I just RMA'd the same drive about a month ago and received a "re-certified" unit of the same model.

I RMA'd a 200g drive about 3 months ago, it took them only 5 days to get me a replacement. It's been working good so far.

I was impressed with Maxtor's RMA process. I did the advance RMA, got the new one and sent back the old one in the same box.

RMAd the same drive and got a new one. Looks like I had a similar problem - the drive lasted only 5 months. Went out and bought a WD 80 w/8mb cache for use as the primary drive,
