Some states have, "Keep right except to pass," laws. Some do not. In the ones that do, yes you have to move over if you're not passing. The left lane is not your personal travel lane.

YES. You are creating a traffic hazard even if the people behind you are breaking the law. You are not to enforce traffic laws, that's the job of the police.

Yes. The left lane is only for passing in most states, and that's a law. It doesn't matter how fast you are going.

most states are "slower traffic keep right" which is a subtle difference. basically means you don't have to get back over as long as you're not impeding traffic.

Yes. In Michigan you can and will get an impeding traffic if you decide to move into the left lane and start holding up traffic no matter how fast you are going. The lane is for passing and getting back over, not for people who feel it's their right to drive in whatever lane they feel like at whatever speed they feel like driving.

I see shit like this all the time. The big road going westbound away from the city has a speed limit of 90k (56mph) but it's extremely rare to see anyone going anywhere near that speed. Most people go about 70k (44mph) on that road. It's ridiculous. These people should be in jail then raped then put in jail again to be raped.

I don't so much care about the left lane. Proper signaling is probably my biggest driving peeve.

The turning signal is required to switch lanes and to turn. It's a pre-emptive warning to let people know your intentions.

If your car is already switching lanes before you signal, your signal is void... no point in even touching it at that point.

I don't usually signal when I change lanes. Too many people gun it to cut you off when they see you want to merge in front of them. I always signal when making an actual turn though.

In the DC metro area a signal to change lanes is a signal for the guy in the lane you want to get into to speed up to prevent you from getting in that lane. End result is people signal simultaneously with beginning to change lanes or don't bother signaling at all.

I think this mostly only applies on interstates where there wouldnt usually be a turn from the left lane.

And yeah, the people who try to merge over at the last second when a lane is ending really piss me off. I love it when tractor trailers block both lanes to prevent people from doing this.

I do agree, but my opinion on the matter is changing. Your area DOT would much prefer it if they filled up both lanes and "zipper" merged. It's better for traffic flow.
