A power supply to suit my PC?

Well, I've been searching high and low to find a power supply that will work well with my system. I've got a silly motherboard that still runs the processor off of the +5V rail, so I need to find a PSU with decent amperage on said rail. Somebody recommended a PSU with at least 40A in a previous thread that I made, and while I don't know how neccessary that is, it seems like a good idea. But I can't find one!

Any suggestions? I would really appreciate it, as I don't trust my current PSU very much at all (Okia!😛).

Ideally, it would be something that I could get from ncix.com, or at least some other website that ships to Canada (no Newegg for me).

Nah even the the normal A64s only need 17A on the 12+ rail. 40 is overkill on a 5+ rail unless you running like 10-12 HDs. Check the PCP&P Silencer series 310-470 PSUs. They all have more then enough power.

I guess I should have mentioned that I was after the cheapest decent PSU that I can get... PCP&C stuff is a little more than I want to spend, probably, and I wouldn't even know where to find them.

And it's also worth keeping in mind that electrical power is determined by the formula P=IV, where P is power in watts, I is current in amps, and V is voltage. Following from that, a processor needing a certain amount of power would need about 2.4x the amps when running off of the +5V rail than when running on the +12V rail. Unless there are other factors that I need to take into account (which there may well be; I'm not too great at this stuff), then it would make sense that my processor may well need 30A-40A on the +5V rail, if an A64 needs 17A on the +12V rail.

Look here Text they ship everywhere.

I got the 6460 and the cooling fan is just like my old Fortron 400watter, even cold it is noticable. The HG2 series are much quieter but the +5V line is*only*35A. All have server
length cabling of 18 AWG. The output of these units is under rated and are reviewed as a Sumo wrestler as far as accepting load. The cost of the PSM series is beyond my means/needs.

OP, when you find the cheapest decent PSU let us all know about it.

Well, I never said I wanted it to be cheap and good. I just don't want to spend $200 on a power supply if I could get a fairly reliable one for $70.

Zalman ZM400A-APF 400W meets your needs and it has active PFC.

The egg has it for $69.50 and i'm sure it can be found in Canada or a US vender that will ship your way.

IIRC,that PSU has a good reputation. Never heard any complaints about it and it's quiet.

Cool, thanks for the suggestion. A bit on the pricey side, but ncix has it in stock, so that's a big plus.

I just found a Tagan power supply there that looks extremely good, but I can't quite remember if Tagan is one of the good PSU brands or one of the brands to avoid...

You are right tagan still makes good power supplies....this one might be a bit overkill and a little more than you wanted to spend but it powers my system like a beast and it is dead silent....

pcp&p sells the Silencer 310 for $50 silencer 360 for $70. Those aren't bad prices at all for top-notch PSUs

Those aren't prices, but the problem is still trying to find a place that sells 'em. I'd like to stick with ncix because I have plans to order a lot of stuff from them... eventually.

Yeah, the one I was looing at on ncix is similar, though not quite the same. What a beast!😛 Shame they don't actually have it in stock.
