Seeing the results rolling in on these social issues, all I can think: wtf is wrong with people? Why can't they mind their own business? Why do you care if you're gay neighbor gets married to the love of his/her life? Are you afraid your kids are going to catch the gay? I'm just hoping that Prop 8 goes down in flames (considering at the time of this post, it is only 15%-20% of precincts reporting).

California prop 8 is about a state constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. Simple and straight forward enough, right?
The proponents first started out saying "It's all about kids and education", to which the anti prop 8 ads raised the BS flag because it's obviously about neither. Their latest ad said it's about "Religious freedom", I'm not shitting you. They're trying to spin this one more than a DJ spins a record.
They should just say it how it is. It's about gay marriage. For or against, it's up to the people to vote. Calling it something else is just trying to hide it.

no, it's just about gay marriage. look at every state and country that's approved gay marriage - it effects the school, society, culture, everything.
if the issue was solely about marriage i couldn't care less, but it isn't.
if a man and man want to marry so be it.

Which side was using the freedom of religion argument? Because it does seem like a religious freedom issue to some extent -- if marriage is redefined as being between a man and a woman, it gives legitimacy to traditional Christian religions and rules out any other interpretations. If the argument is that marriage is a religious institution, don't other religions have just as much right to define marriage as they see fit?
Excellent point and good question!
The anti-gay marriage group is calling it protecting religious freedom. Which is why the BSometer broke.
That certainly is a valid point, one I can totally agree with. Something I worry about more is the newborn's life after birth. If his or her very parents decide they are not in a good position to support their child, who else is a better judge here? It is like hoping to win a war when your actual odds of winning is rather low, kinda reminds me of some other sector of politics. If 'pro-life' people are hellbent on stripping the parent's right to judge their aptness for parentship, I suggest they propse a bill where a pro-lifer must adopt a kid at least. This thread is not about abortion. However, the right to life does not stop at merely defending one's life against the threat of death. Within it is the inherent belief that an individual is the sole owner of their own bodies. Wherein lies the conflict with regards to abortion.
