A Pleasent Simmer: TSU2000 Intelligent Remote Control

$205 No rebates, or coupons. MSRP$399

6.53 Lifetime Rating on RR.

This is by far the best price anywhere online, a full $30 under any other merchant after shipping. This universal remote is truely badass, would make a killer X-mas present for any techie.

The Review is highly complementary, and the TSU2000 remains the best bang for the buck of touchscreen LCD universal remotes. More customizable than your handheld.

Nice deal. I bought a Pronto TSU2000 a couple years ago - nice remote. The PC software - ProntoEdit - was a little flaky, but newer versions have worked out many of the kinks. Great range, slick optional battery dock/charger, amazing customizability.

If you are the kind of person that will spend hours to design custom screens and button configuratios for a home theater remote that no one else will appreciate - you have to have this remote. In the end, I ebayed mine once I got TiVo - which has a really nice remote. Watching TiVo just wasn't as easy without buttons with tactile feedback, which a touch screen doesn't have.

Nice find, BuddyLee!

P.S. You can find TONS of premade CCF files for the Pronto on the remotecentral.com site - the mecca for all things remote controlled.

An free shipping through today. Price went up 5 bucks since I bought one of these from eCost a while back. Nice remote.

I just can't spend two hundreds dollars just to integrate all remote controls i have into an all-in-one remote control. It looks like a cool toy and might be useful. But the convenience it brings worth $200?

PDA's aren't really ready for primetime in the remote arena. A few bucks more, but you can get it here at PCMall. Pretty reputable. I would wait on this though as the revision is coming out very soon, if its not already.

Why not use your PDA for this ?

PDA IR range is the limiting factor. I am not sure of other PPCs but I get a good 20' from my $150 @migo. I get all of the features of this unit + all of the things that you have a PDA for. I would check theIR range of the Dell Axim before I bought this.

1) Who would pay this much for a glorified remote control? How lazy are people getting?

2) The IR transceiver on PDAs is designed with a very small radius of transmission, meaning you have to point it pretty much right at the appliance's IR receiver in order for it to work. Not to mention the fact that PDAs are too big for a remote and using a stylus for a remote is just lame.

IMO - the biggest drawback in the TSU2000 and other similar devices is that they do not support RF devices such as satellite receivers. Add to that the fact that most of the newer upper-end audio and video hardware are supporting RF only and dropping IR alltoghther lead me to think this and other such devices are already dated. Unless you want to have all your equipment bunched together in a corner in the same room IR just will not handle today?s sophisticated multi-room media setups. Save your $$ and use your PDA until a RF version is released.

PCMall had a lower rating on RR, and made you fill out a rebate form to get the free shipping. eCost wanted to charge me a $10 handling fee, but I told them about PCMall's 'free shipping' and they knocked off the handling charge. eCost is BizRate too, never had a problem with a BizRate merchant.

For most of us a universal remote probably isn't a huge deal. My Kenwood amp came with a universal touch screen remote, and I love it. I probably woudn't buy one seperate though. The problem is that my parents have a reciever, dvd player, vcr, cable box, tv, cd player, tape deck, and some kind of digital equalizer. My mom has never really learned all the components, so it will be something my tech savvy dad will love to fiddle with and my mom can actually really use the macro functions. Also I read online you can buy programs for the remote that let you use it to contol programs on a laptop with IR ports like Powerpoint and Winamp.

With the size of buttons in remote interfaces on a PDA and a screen protector, I have no problems using mine without the stylus.
