Believe it or not, if you don't post in them, they will die. If enough people actually didn't want them around, they would just not post in them.

That's correct, actually. "Christ" is a descriptor. Jesus' family name was not "Christ", it was something else (I forget his bloodline... =/). I'm assuming it turned from "Jesus, the Christ" to "Jesus, Christ" to "Jesus Christ". Basically it translates into "Jesus Messiah".
