A pair of 1.6A's with same batch #... same max O/C? Testing now...

The 1.6A I bought last week did 145 FSB ( 2320MHz ) with default voltage. At 150 FSB, Prime95 would crash after 1 hour.

Yesterday, I got my hands on another 1.6A that has the same batch, version, and pack date ( 3209A890, A82110-003, 05/17/02 respectively ) as the previous one. Will it hit the same max speed? :D

At the moment, I'm up to 150 FSB... but Prime95 just started a few minutes ago.

The test system ( the same one I ran my previous 1.6A on ):
Mobo: Asus P4B533 ( running bios 1006 )
Memory: 1 stick of Crucial 256MB PC2700 ( it's pretty crappy... it will not run over 186 FSB ).
Videocard: VisionTek GF3 ti200 ( stock core/mem speed ).
HDD: WD 800BB ( Loud SOB ).
PSU: Antec PP-303XP ( 300W ).

For this chip, I decided to take the time to run some benchies:

Sooooo... will Prime95 fail? It's been a little over 10 minutes now. The suspense is killing me. :D

Well, it looks like this chip is better than my old one. Prime95 had been running for 8+ hrs, and did not fail. I'm currently at 155 FSB... on default voltage. :D

I ran Prime95 for a good 12 hours before moving from 155 FSB to 160 FSB. Now, at 160 FSB, it's been running for 6+ hrs. I think I'll let it run throughout the night. The v-core is still at 1.500v in bios ( 1.568 in windows ). :)

Mikki, I tried the 3:4 hack, but my stick of PC2700 ( Crucial ) can't handle anything over 140 FSB. :(

I just want to hit 166 FSB... :D

Okay... some good news and bad news.

Good news: Prime95 ran for 18+ hrs at 160 FSB before I moved up to 165 FSB.

Bad news: At 165 FSB, I get "PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA" in WinXP... at different times ( after running Sandra or Prime95 for a minute or so... or right before logging into XP ). Bah. :(

Well, I'm having some problems now. I have increased the vcore to 1.55, but I still get that BSOD ( Link ).

Is it my RAM?? The mem ratio is 1:1... so it's not overclocked ( my FSB is currently at 165 ).

Hey LazyC! Remember me? Well, I have a CPU with the exact same FPO/Batch# as both of yours, I guess (from Future Shop on Eglinton and Laird). I haven't tested it, or opened it yet, because my DDR RAM hasn't arrived from Vancouver yet (tuesday I think). So I have a couple question for ya:

The first one that would only run at 145 FSB, did you return that one and get another one? If so, tell me how the return went. FS normally doesnt' hassle at all, but I noticed on my receipt it said "No refunds or exchanges on opened items"... WTF? That's not their policy. I went through my database of past future shop receipts and saw the same thing written on a receipt from 2 years ago when I bought a CDRW (which incidentally I returned cuz it was burning coasters). So, I'm asking, is this thing returnable? I haven't broken the seal on the box yet on the Costa CPU (I'm gonna test the Malay one first that I got from another store).

And last question: did you use arctic silver and the stock HSF? Or a better HSF?

SupermanCK... increasing the voltage now. :D

raddycast, I didn't return it... I'm holding on to it for another build. I'm using the stock HSF with AS3... perhaps that is why this one is doing better than the first ( I used the thermal pad for that one )? :D

As for FS's return policy... a few months ago, I returned a harddrive and a videocard ( just told them I didn't like the performance ) and they were fine with it. My reciept also said "No returns or exchanges on opened items". The back of the reciept doesn't say anything about not being able to return pc components... only software and music. So if they hassle you, just tell 'em it doesn't say anything about on the back of the reciept.

BTW, let me know how your 1.6a overclocks ( if you decide to try the costa rica one ). :)

Hey LazyC. I have started to test out the first chip I got, an L209 (malay week 9). Still waiting to test the costa that's the same as yours. I'm disappointed in this Malay. It seems to be a lot like the first Costa you tested, even slightly worse.

It won't do 150 FSB under any conditions stably, not even +15% vcore, but the abit bd7-ii-raid undervolts (according to MBM).

It can do between 140 to 145 at default voltage (tested at 140, failed at 145), but def. voltage is lower than 1.5 on my board, sometimes as low as 1.46. So I figure that's the same as yours doing 145 at default voltage (if I give it slightly more juice to compensate for the undervolt I'm sure it'd run 145)....

In fact it seems to be running 148 with the +5% vcore, but still, can't hit 150 FSB. Will burn in more. Stock HSF with AS3.

Will test that Costa in a few days, want to put this Malay through the wringer first. I'll report back. (Everything is set to really basic besides FSB, PCI locked at 33, and memory running at 1:1 and 2-3-3-6-2T even though it's rated 2-2-2-5-1T at these LOW speeds).
