A non-obnoxious free AV program

Hi gang. I was hoping for what seems the impossible: a free AV program that isn't an intrusive pain in the ass. I tried Bitdefender and it was so annoying, between mandatory registration, required login and constantly turning itself off, that I removed it.

Is there a free AV that's good and that won't pester the daylights out of you?
