I have had Bell Atlantic DSL and now Optimum Online and I will notice on occasion that I suddenly try to open my WEB Browser or Launch my email program ( Outlook Express ) that I will just not be able to connect. This happens on occasion but not often...Perhaps once every couple days or so. In the past, I would simply reboot my system and it would re establish my connection with no problems but I was still in search of finding out why this randomly happens!....I am currently running Win98SE. So accidently one night I noticed that after I couldn't get online with my web browser only a few minutes after i just closed a live a full working connection...I was puzzled and mad at the same time. So for the hell of it, I clicked on CTRL-ALT-DELETE and noticed what was running....I saw all the normal things like Explorer..SysTray...ect but then I noticed NOTEPAD??....I was wondering why notepad was running in this screen but wasn't anywhere to be found on my desktop, startbar or in my system tray. So I quickly END TASKED on it to my surprise it responded with a NOT RESPONDING message and gave me the option of WAIT or CLOSE...SO I chose close and made sure it still wasn't running by doing a CTRL-ALT-DELETE again....Right after ending the task of the NOTEPAD I RELAUNCHED my WEB BROWSER and my EMAIL PROGRAM...THEY BOTH WORKED FINE!!!
I have 2 PC's hooked up on my LYNKSYS BSFER41 CABLE/DSL 10/100 ROUTER HUB and I occasionally have this problem on both my machines from time to time and have found that this WORKS every time now to correct the problem!!
Please Experts....tell me what is going on...and why this works?..IF YOU DARE! <g>
