I'm not for banning cigerettes, but maybe we should just place a 20 dollar tax on each pack of smokes sold? Good short term source of coin, which we can funnel into the medical system.

Just like gasoline and alcohol, a huge portion of the price is already tax.

Gas, booze, and smokes. The government taxes the fawk out of the essentials. 😛

I wonder when the toilet paper tax will be proposed

This study demonstrated that beliefs about the health effects of thirdhand smoke are independently associated with home smoking bans. Emphasizing that thirdhand smoke harms the health of children may be an important element in encouraging home smoking bans. Health messages about thirdhand smoke contamination could be easily incorporated into current tobacco control campaigns, programs, and routine clinical practice.

Home smoking bans? What the fuck country is this again?

Smokers all smell disgusting and make me want to retch when I get within 15 feet of them. Occasionally I've made the mistake of going to a smoker's house. Not only is it gross but I end up smelling bad afterward. I'm glad I don't have any friends who smoke.

I'm not overly concerned about the health effects of this so-called "third hand smoke," but it's definitely real stuff because it's stinky. And I'm guessing fourth-hand smoke would be the slight smokey smell my clothes get after being in the same room as a smoker.

Hey, there's an "I hate fat people" thread every couple weeks, no reason we can't have an "I hate smokers" thread too. And I don't even hate smokers! I just hate smoking.

Some moron needs to learn about trace amounts and threshold values before making up FUD. ( this more or less applies to second hand smoke too, esp outdoors).

The background radiation in your house is the same radiation as in an atomic bomb! OMG NOES!!1!!1

There is probably more danger to respiratory problems in infants from pet dander, and pet hair floating around the house, or being embedded in the carpet then kicked up into the air to be circulated when people walk on it, especially if you have multiple dogs or cats than there ever would be from this supposed "third hand smoke"

what are they going to do ban cats and dogs next?

What about those that do not change furnace filters regularly....know how much shit get circulated through your home when the filter is not clean?

Than can't be good for children and infants either.

what next, have the furnace filter police stop in every 3 months to check your filters?

Hurry! we must be saved from ourselves!!!!

Sixth-hand smoke is when I rub my wang in tobacco and make love to my SO in the non-naturally lubricated zone. The friction causes tobacco smoke to enter her body through the cavity, and can then cause numerous cancers.

omg lmao

that is what bothers me... so the government is trying to say what I can and can't do in my own home?

:music: Fuck you, I won't do what you tell me :music:

That's why I hate being near people who smoke. They SMELL. Their hair smells, their skin smells, their clothes smell, their car smells, everything they own smells.

Only good thing going for the smokers is smoking has completely obliterated your sense of smell as at least you can't smell your own stench.

It smells bad and is annoying. Health risks aside, it intrudes into my personal space.

Smoking is a sign of weakness and stupidity.

Can also be a sign of someone who enjoys all of life's pleasures and does not get his tits in a twist of every little thing that Oprah said could kill him. I am still pissed that McDonalds fries suck now that trans fat is the bugbear du jour.

To paraphrase Henny Youngman, when I read about the evils of drinking and smoking, I gave up reading.

15 feet? Are you part bloodhound? 😛

Maybe it would be more accurate to say that I can usually detect them from about 15 feet away, but it all depends on a lot of factors like where we are, how recently they've smoked, etc.

Once in a while, one will come up to me whose odor rivals that of the most pungent unshowered person I've smelled. That happened when I was working at a school library - I could barely stand to breathe at the counter across from the guy.
