A new browser called RockMelt?

Analog

Lifer
AP) -- Web browser pioneer Marc Andreessen is betting people are ready to try a different way of surfing the Internet. That's why he is backing a new browser call RockMelt, which will be available for the first time Monday after nearly two years in development.
RockMelt is built on the premise that most online activity today revolves around socializing on Facebook, searching on Google, tweeting on Twitter and monitoring a handful of favorite websites.
Andreessen revolutionized Internet with the introduction of the Netscape browser in the mid-1990s. He is helping to fund and advise RockMelt as a member of the startup's board of directors.
The new browser was created by Tim Howes and Eric Vishria, who used to work for Andreessen.

From the video it looks similar to chrome, with a little of Facebook sprinkled in..

Why does everybody want Facebook involved in EVERYTHING?

Wow, innovative. He took Chrome, and added Facebook bookmarks. That's pretty special indeed. That should help the typical Facebook user find the site for the first time, but I wonder how they'll find this browser?....

I don't need social interaction in every single thing I do on the internet.

Ads on facebook.

Why waste money creating a whole new browser that practically speaking nobody will EVER use, will never make money, and all you are basically doing is creating an add-on to typical browsers which would have been cheaper, faster, and see a lot more use?

I mean you have to be a complete moron to put money into this. You all see how successful Netscape is? That was before we had a browser selection.

Marketing will get people who never consider an alternate browser to get this. It will probably eclipse every other alternative within 2 years.

I read that it requires you to sign into FB. No doubt people who primarily use the Internet for Twitter & FB will love it.

Oh good... so it can scrape my address books and emails and suggest friends to add and products to buy.

i have to admit, if they did a similar integration w/ gchat/gmail/buzz I'd love it. But I just don't use facebook/twitter much at all

I'll stick to chrome
